Biography
"Waterscapes" is a personal project of photographer Cameron Gillie in which he has turned his lens toward the timeless beauty of Southwest Florida's natural environment with a fine art photographic eye.
Cameron's fascination with the swamps and coastal waterways of South Florida has grown over the past five years from his weekend explorations and while working on several special reports on these unique environments as a staff photographer for the Naples Daily News. The blend of scenic photography and photojournalism in those stories earned numerous state and national awards. Those stories include three crossings of the Everglades: one by canoeing the Wilderness Waterway, one by hiking the length Big Cypress National Preserve and another by sailing a canoe across the "River of Grass."
Outside of places like the boardwalk at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary most of South Florida's natural wonders lay far beyond the reach of the average resident or tourist. The swamps and wild areas can be an uninviting place for those who don't want to venture into dark, knee-deep water and all that lurks within and buzzes above. "Waterscapes" offers an intimate view of those wild places without soggy shoes or a single mosquito bite.
